Helping you overcome anxiety
Everyone gets anxious from time to time, it can range from feeling uneasy to worried and for some it can cause severe panic. At Psychologists Southern Sydney (PSS) we work with people of all ages on overcoming the negative effects that anxiety can cause. We have helped many people overcome their anxieties by assisting them to develop life changing strategies, replacing the negative thinking with healthier ways to deal with anxiety from mild to severe.
Have you had any of these symptoms of anxiety?
Anxiety reveals itself in different ways. Symptoms can include: rapid heartbeat, trembling, faintness/dizziness, difficulty breathing, confusion, sweating, upset stomach or nausea, restlessness, avoidance behaviour and irritability. Clients tell us about the uncomfortable feelings of fear or impending disaster. Maybe you, or a friend, work colleague or family member have experienced one or more of these symptoms.
When your anxiety level is too high you can’t come up with an effective way of managing the stressful or threatening situation. You might “freeze”, avoid the situation, or even fear do something that is out of character. There could be negative and unhelpful thoughts like, “this is really bad” or “I can’t cope with this”. For others, responses to anxiety include aggression, restlessness or irrational behaviour such as repeated checking.
So what causes mild to severe anxiety? Research has found family background can be a factor as can be life experiences, abuse, bullying at school, family break-up, workplace conflict and stress. People who are shy or have low self-esteem may suffer more from anxiety attacks as can perfectionists.
