Autism Spectrum Counselling for children and adults

At Psychologist Southern Sydney (PSS) we treat children and adults who are diagnosed as high functioning or have mild autism. For more severe Autism or diagnosis you would need to go to a clinic or psychiatrist who specialises in the area. A good place to start would be to visit

Research shows that children with ASD can greatly improve with early intervention, diagnosis and treatment. With early intervention all children will improve and up to one third make very good progress.

Our psychological treatment includes behavioural intervention which has been shown to improve the functioning of people with ASD. We offer specific therapy being tailored to the needs of the individual.

Adults and Children with ASD have difficulties that are usually grouped into three areas.

1. Verbal and non-verbal communication

2. Social awareness and interaction

3. Activities and interests

Both children and adults with ASD often experience stress and anxiety arising from the difficulty in dealing with change and unpredictable situations. They are also at risk of developing depression, especially in late adolescence and early adulthood.

As people with ASD often have difficulty understanding and communicating their own feelings (including anxiety or distress), these problems may not be initially apparent.

Children and adults with ASD may also experience sleep problems. Children in particular may have difficulty going to sleep, continue to be active through the night, wake frequently and sleep much less than expected for their age.

If you feel that you, or someone you know, would benefit from our professional assistance with ASD, please contact Psychologists Southern Sydney today on 02 8381 5867. Our team also help individuals, individuals, families and carers manage other problems that may be associated with a person who has ASD such as anxiety, depression, relationships and workplace issues.
