Grief and Loss

If you or someone close to you is grieving you know how hard it is to overcome the grief. It is important to realise we all respond to loss in different ways so we all progress through our grief with a variety of emotions, thoughts, sensations, and behaviours. People experience loss as the result of a loved one’s death separation or divorce, the loss of a sense of safety or predictability, physical incapacity, the loss of your home.

No matter what the situation, age or background, you can feel a range of emotions from anger, guilt and remorse to anxiety, loneliness, helplessness, confusion. Your health may be affected; day to day routine becomes difficult.

If you or someone you know is finding it difficult to overcome the grief over a prolonged period outside help may be required intervention may be required. If grief is affecting a person’s work, school, home life, or relationships, psychological assistance should be considered.

Our mature, experienced, psychologists at Psychologists Southern Sydney (PSS) work with people to deal with grief and loss in an empathetic, caring way. Research and our experience have shown counselling sessions with a psychologist helps.

It could be therapy to work through unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that are stopping you moving forward. We offer focused family grief therapy which aims to enhance the functioning and communication within a family, in turn preventing the complications of bereavement. We also offer grief treatment which addresses the symptoms of loss by helping individuals re-establish relationships and focus on personal life goals, therapy to help people find meaning and significance in their loss and in their ongoing lives.

Our PSS psychologists help clients adjust to their loss and cope with their grief with ongoing counselling sessions. Through listening and talking we assess your wellbeing, understanding your specific needs and then develop a treatment plan which includes a self-care plan.

We are open six days a week for bookings throughout the day and after hours, also Saturdays. Private Health and Medicare Rebates are available on the spot.
