Relationship & Marriage Counselling
Every relationship is unique and should contribute to your personal wellbeing and quality of life.
However, over time it is not uncommon for relationships to go ‘off track’. Whether it’s a relationship between a couple, within a family or extended family, friendships, co-workers, groups or communities issues can arise that put a strain on an individual or all parties in the relationship. Our relationship counselling provides people the tools they need to build resilience, increase positivity and resolve differences.
Why do relationships fail?
For some, it can be a consequence of poor communication skills, breaking of trust, shutting the other person out, addiction, disagreements over responsibilities and household tasks, financial issues, relationship intimacy issues including impotence, libido and other health issues. For others it may be pressures arising from major life transitions such as the loss of a loved one, career changes, retirement, retrenchment, having a baby, or undefined, immigration shifting or split loyalties between extended family or in-laws.

How we work with you
At PSS we work with individuals, couples, families and the LGBTIQ community to recognise the factors that are affecting their relationship issues. We work with you to overcome these problems to rebuild the relationship or possibly to move on. Left unresolved, these issues not only make you feel unhappy but can also cause considerable psychological, physical and emotional stress.
With relationship and marriage counselling we may suggest to have individual sessions or combined sessions or both to help work through personal unresolved issues. Our psychologists adhere to the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality, you have the choice of working with a female or male psychologists who are all in tune with helping you achieve positive outcomes to move forward with your life.
We help you identify issues such as the willingness to give and forgive, to change, admit past mistakes, to listen and support each other and be open, to keep promises and build trust.
In session firstly we are a good ear, empathetic and non-judgemental. We use a range of researched and proven therapies that aim to change patterns of behaviour. Your psychologist may use emotion-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) or solution-focused therapy..
