Managing Stress

Stress is healthy, a normal part of life but it can become harmful if we become over-stressed for too long and it interferes with our ability to get on with our normal life. You know the feeling, worried, you tense up, and feel overloaded or wound up tight. Triggers may include troubled relationships, work, deadlines, family issues, seeing particular people, illness, grief or loss. It’s important to work out what are the issues or triggers that raise your stress levels constantly and make it more difficult to cope day to day?

Untreated stress can manifest itself in the following ways-

  • Anxiety
  • Sleep disturbance, insomnia
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Anger, irritability
  • Headaches, other aches and pains
  • Feeling overwhelmed and out of control
  • Feeling moody, tearful
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Low self-esteem, lack of confidence
  • High blood pressure
  • Weakened immune system
  • Heart disease

Our psychologists at Psychologists Southern Sydney (PSS) work with you to identify your triggers and to develop techniques to calm yourself when you start feeling stressed so you can enjoy life, your relationships, work and activities.

Put simple it is finding ways to change the negative thinking into healthier thinking that will help you cope with stress. As part of dealing with your stress issues we might also identify with replacing bad lifestyle habits with ones that benefit you – better sleep patterns, exercise, reducing alcohol and caffeine, breathing exercises, dietary habits and work life balance.

With a load of your shoulders you’ll feel healthier and happier.

We are open six days a week for bookings throughout the day and after school hours, also Saturdays. Private Health and Medicare Rebates are available on the spot.
